play_entsound - sound cuts off

play_entsound - sound cuts off - 01/08/04 12:55

Hi. When I try to play a sound file using play_entsound, only the 1st split second of the sound actually plays, and then the rest is cut off. I have no problems when I use play_sound instead, but I need it to be in 3d.

I have a sound blaster live! sound card, and I have checked that sound hardware acceleration is on max. Would this be a 3dgs problem or a driver problem? Sound in other games works fine.

Couple of questions:

1. What are your computer specifications?
2. Do you have a latest version of DirectX?
3. What version of SoundBlaster Live! are you using?
4. What edition and version of 3D GameStudio do you have?
5. Have you tried running DirectX Diognostics Tool?

To run DirectX Diagnostics Tool, perform the following:

  • Click Start, then Run.
  • Type:
    C:\Windows\System32\dxdiag.exe
  • Click Okay.

And so the type of problem that you have is the sound problem in 3DGS. Perform the folliwing:

  • Click the Sound tab.
  • Click Test Sound to begin the sound test in DirectX.

This is all the information that I need to solve the problem.

My computer specs are:
1.2 Ghz AMD Duron
512 mb SD RAM
128 mb Radon 9000 Pro video card
SB Live! 5.1 sound card
Windows XP
DirectX 9.0

I am using 3dgs version 5.51.04. I tried the DxDiag sound tests, and all were successful.

Hi

I think its most probably because the entity that was playing
this sound was removed or a proc_kill was done which would have
resulted in the termination of the sound. Please post your code
here so that we can check where the bug is.

I've figured it out...I was playing the sound from a gun muzzle flash (which only exists for a few frames) instead of from the gun itself. Thanks for the help.
