Gamestudio 8.20.1 Public Beta - 05/13/11 09:59

A new Gamestudio update is available for a public beta test during the next week.

This version fixes some reported issues with 8.20.0. Some of the new features of Gamestudio 8.20: HDR shader, motorized joints, rope joint, registry functions, new shooter templates, unprotected multiplayer sessions, and many new or improved engine functions. A detailed list can be found here:

Install the update over your Gamestudio 8.10 version. Please report any problems to the bug forum.

Cool !
I'll do another test with the shooter template again to see
how it behave when we create a new empty level ??
(i hope to not find same errors like sounds, images missing !)

This version is a code fix. We have not added sounds and images.

The default sounds and images used for a shooter can be found in the shooter level of AUM 97.

Ok, i just wanted to point that when we start a blank project,
we can't just add template shooter like that to the project !
Caus the sounds, images it uses are hard coded in it.
And if you don't copy manually all ressources for the shooter template on your work directory you'll have errors !

When choosing shooter template, all necessary ressources should be imported also !
So like i said the best is copy and paste the whole shooter code and ressources directly on the work directory.

Perhaps the next step in template evolution :
Importing default ressources (sound,images,models) from the A8
repertories to the new project to work in pair with the template ?

Question by side: Is the HDR shader faster than the Shade-C HDRR? Or is it the same? is there a template DOF shader, too?

I don't know why, but when I set fog_color to "4" HDR doesn't work.

Ehm... sorry for my trivial question, but where is the link for the new update?
I downloaded 8.20 public beta then final version (see DOWNLOAD area in 3dgs), but where is the link in this forum area for 8.20.1?

It is a8.20.1, just run it and watch the engine version number in the startup window :-)

Some answers:

- The HDR shader is probably faster than the shade-C HDR because all newer standard shaders are heavily speed optimized. But we haven't made a direct fps comparison.

- There is no standard DOF shader yet.

- HDR is a 2D effect and unrelated to fog_color.

What you mean "unrelated"? Fact is, that when I set "fog_color" to "4" HDR doesn't work.

unrelated means, it can't possibly effect the hdr in anyway.
BTW fog_color 4 is generally black, try setting it to 1,1,1 instead of 0,0,0

Yeah, I've played with values, didn't really try to set it to zero, I played around 150 and 250, but only when I commented "fog_color = 4;" HDR worked great, other way, there was no effect.

HDR means "high definition rendering" and simulates increased brightness of bright parts of the image, such as sun or lights. When you put dark fog over your image you have obviously no bright parts and thus wont see much of HDR effects.

Look in the Wiki there is an explanation what HDR does and how it is used.

HDR also means Herr der Ringe which is the german translation for Lord of the rings

I cannot confirm this. Make a small proof of concept demo for that bug!
