surface padding?

Are BMAPs "padded" to the nearest higher power of 2? I noticed that the D3DSURFACE_DESC has values that are always powers of 2.
Why is this? It makes it difficult to render them with DrawPrimitiveUP.

Sure, they are padded. General information and advices about texture sizes in computer games can be found in the manual:

@ lostclimate: My exams are over now. I'm free smile

@ jcl: Thanks. I've adjusted the uv settings to fit the texture (real_width / texture_width). Now I can use DrawPrimitiveUP to render them.
