LightWave or 3D Studio to MED?

LightWave or 3D Studio to MED? - 03/26/09 07:45

Is there any way to import models from either LW or 3DS with textures? Preferably LightWave since that's what my group decided to use.

I tried exporting using .ASE, and even though the Model Editor let me choose the texture when I imported it in, the texture appears to be still missing. fixed

3ds format doesnt support animations.

you need to use fbx for that.

I tried using .3DS for both LightWave and 3DStudio, it prompts for texture over at Model Editor's side, but the model it gives me still came out empty without any texture.

reimport texture from med's texture manager. This is likely to happen when you use jpg textures.

What file format is safe to use? BMP, PCX and TGA?

TGA by preference, or DDS if you can get your hands on it.

Sorry for bringing back this thread, but I just realised that though the model and texture is brought over, the map is haywire. For example, for a model of a man, only the front and back is displayed correctly, everywhere else, the texture is stretched and distorted. Looking at the Skin Editor, the map is now jumbled up and in a mess, with only a few portions of the original map in Lightwave staying in its original position?

Why?

I'm using .TGA 24 bits texture FYI.

This sounds like a problem with the uv-map. What format did you use to transfer the model? Did you create uv-coordinates for every polygon?

My steps are:

Map > New UV Map
Texture Name: Texture
a tick on Initial Value
Map Type: Atlas
Subpatch Interpolation: Linear
no ticks on move control points (old), Segment by Surface, and Segment by Part
Relative Gap Size: 50%

After that, I export the UV out as .ESP, and edited it in Photoshop, saved it as .TGA 24bits

Then in Surface Editor:

Layer Type: Image Map
Blending Mode: Normal
Layer Opacity: 100%
no tick on Invert Layer
Projection: UV
UVMap: Texture
Image: tt_inf.tga (that's my filename)
Tile: Repeat
tick on Pixel Blending
Mipmap Quality: High
Mipmap Strength: 1

Thanks for wanting to help, Machinery_Frank.
