Low game FPS with my model

Low game FPS with my model - 10/24/10 18:07

Hi there!

I've got a problem importing my models. I made a room with 3DS Max, exported to 3ds, then imported to WED directly. But after building the map, its size is 13MB, and the game runs at 90fps. The room has only 1852 poly and textures are 256x256px.

(The PC has: 2,17GHz CPU, 2GB RAM and and an ATI 256 MB DDR2 DX10 compatible VGA)

Either Do I create my models in wrong way, or do the high-poly models drop the fps down?
Can you give me some advices how to create them?

Use the Textures Externaly. (Could be done in MED with the "Extern" Flag)
Dou you use Shaders / Shadows or something else?

I used them externaly, but the built map is still 13MB.
I don't use Shaders / Shadows, just import the models into WED (with 'import MDL' or 'import 3DS' menu), then run the game.

Forgot to mention, I'm in the same team with him laugh

You mention the size of the model but could you please tell us two other things...
1. The verticie count?
2. What type of texture bitmaps are used.

The picture you posted looks like the vertcie count is not excessive so I assume that because you started with 3ds max that your textures are probably jpeg.
If that is the case then there is your large file size problem and at the same time your low fps problem.

Experiment with different types of bitmap types. You will find that .dds textures will lower your file size and speed up the fps the most.
But you at least should use .pcx or .tga textures...

Also, if you could do as Quadraxas suggests we could test and make accurate suggestions...
Good luck.....

Terrasame i dont think that the File Types or Polycount are the problem... He uses 256*256 Bitmaps (these must be under 1 MB per file) and on the Screenshot above you can see the Models are low poly...
Maybe a File is broken? So open and resave all files (Bitmaps) and reload them in WED or MED...

Can you show us a textured version?
How many textures are generated by WED on the import process?

Sorry, but I was busy :S

So, WED shows 6 textures on the import process, and I use .png.
Easy to use the alpha and transparency with this format. The textures, all together, are 1 MB.

Actually, this framerate is not a problem while playing. But it's just a beginning part of the map and is already big laugh
So, I'm affraid of that the size will be huge in the future.

Can incorrect texture size cause such these things? I mean i.e. 512x256x32. 'Cause I use some with this size.

Re: Low game FPS with my model - 11/01/10 09:51

3 things:

1) i meant the WMP file or the model file with textures, not the compiled one.
2) it runs with 512 fps with free version on a crappy internet cafe computer with on-board intel chip.
3)Too. Much. Overlapping. Blocks.

512x256 is perfectly fine.

Oops, wanted to upload the wmp.
Code:

In preview mode it runs ~300fps, but when I run it from SED with a very basic main(), I get that low fps.

May those blocks cause this problem?

Hi,
Can you explain this? "Too. Much. Overlapping. Blocks"
Or can you show an example where you find an overlapping?

Thanks
