[model-render] space ship [picture heavy] - 06/12/07 21:37

hi all,

in case you were wondering what i've been doing last weeks, i built and textured a space ship for germanunkol's and my upcoming multiplayer space game. i hope you all like it.

it features bump, specular and color maps, all handmade, rendered in c4d 6 (no radiosity).

Very, very nice. Would also be interested in poly count & in-game shots. How large is the texture?

so you can apply a specular and bump map to a model in the 3dgs engine? If so can I see a shot in the engine please?

ingame shots and an asteroid - 07/03/07 09:53

hi all,

making it good looking ingame turned out to be much more difficult than i thought. i designed the specularity maps a bit too dark, i do not know if it still looks good. so i need your advice: as i am no fan of heavy specularity, i need to know if the bump effect on the model is still noticable...

a detail shot...

and an asteroid which i like quite a lot

Re: ingame shots and an asteroid - 07/03/07 10:17

Well the specularity maps are just about the right color because to my opinion, they match the environment like a
charm The bump mapping is still noticable but not on an optimal level, the bump effect needs to jump up as a first special effect to the eye which isn't always the case here. The asteroid look great, very destructive
Nice job until now broozar, keep up the good work !!

Cheers

Re: ingame shots and an asteroid - 07/13/07 11:57

looks kinda slimey -- perhaps use an environment map?

btw: elsewise, great work!

Re: ingame shots and an asteroid - 07/13/07 22:50

@ julz: comparing with the first shots i posted, has it improved or rather not?

Re: ingame shots and an asteroid - 07/14/07 07:16

yes, it has improved a little but i can't see much difference. i'm comparing it with your earliest in-engine shots because it is difficult to compare with renders.

personally, i'd try darker windows with environment mapping.

my previous post was kinda short coz i was abouta go out -- sorry bout that.

this is a little short too coz i'm short on time now.

Re: ingame shots and an asteroid - 07/14/07 09:38

the windows are already enviroment mapped - but yes, making them darker is a good suggestion. thanks.
shots will follow.

Re: ingame shots and an asteroid - 07/14/07 18:31

Looks great, I noticed though it seems like you didnt spend to much time on the front of the craft. Fix up the texture in the front and I think it would look damn near perfect. maybe add some more details all around.

Re: ingame shots and an asteroid - 07/14/07 18:38

Well the texture on the nose and several other spots is a little general, like it's just pasted on it, not like it's a part of the ship. So if you want to improve it, I think that will do alot already.

Nevertheless I think the model is great!
