My project(screenshot&video) - 01/24/08 09:06

Hi friends. This is my project.

Please look at the Video(Youtube)

What do you think friends?

Re: My project(screenshot&video) - 01/24/08 09:45

i like the atmosphere in general but the shader is set worlds too glossy
Posted By: Shadow969

Re: My project(screenshot&video) - 01/24/08 10:33

really nice. but as ello has already said, everything is waaay too shiny, and dark blue fog is a bit strong IMHO. but the graphics and textures are cool

Re: My project(screenshot&video) - 01/24/08 10:40

nice surrealistic atomsphere.

Re: My project(screenshot&video) - 01/24/08 11:04

how many trillions of gallons of varnish did you use to get so glossy things ????

Re: My project(screenshot&video) - 01/24/08 11:11

Looks good the athmosphere is really nice, but the glossyness of the objects is too high.

Re: My project(screenshot&video) - 01/24/08 11:25

Way too glossy, otherwise it looks cool. Noticed that you just have had played HL2?

But too glossy, take the speculars off.

Re: My project(screenshot&video) - 01/24/08 11:54

Plastic world.

Re: My project(screenshot&video) - 01/24/08 13:02

The physic is great but like all before said, it is to glossy. To much shader, the crates didnīt look wooden, the stones looks plastic. Only the walls looks realistic (like it has been raining).
Posted By: BoH_Havoc

Re: My project(screenshot&video) - 01/24/08 13:24

Well yeah way too glossy (except the stonewall, that one looks awesome). Adjust your specularmaps and you should be set
Physics are great indeed.
Oh and btw are you using dynamic shadowmaps? At 0:54 there are some shadowgliches that look like the typical problems of a shadowmappingshader. Nothing bad about it, just curious

Re: My project(screenshot&video) - 01/24/08 13:25

And the gravity for the Objects is too low...
But good work

Re: My project(screenshot&video) - 01/24/08 14:20

Thanks for your comments all friends. I understand; it's too glossy.

@BohHavoc:No, i don't use shadowmapping shader.

Many thanks...

Re: My project(screenshot&video) - 01/24/08 15:27

you know how you can change the glossy part dont you?
create a specularity map...

the alpha channel of your normal map if you use xxxguitars shader...

Re: My project(screenshot&video) - 01/24/08 15:52

alot of your scenes are well designed and the placement of objects is great, however, as mentioned before, the normal mapping is waaaay to glossy, most things look like plastic, if you turn down the gloss then it'll look perfect, atmosphere is good so far, so keep up the good work

is this game an adventure game? if so i'd be happy to see this go far, there haven't been any good adventure games in a while

Re: My project(screenshot&video) - 01/24/08 16:09

That looks awesome!! I like the blue fog, gives it a silent hill type feel. I'd really like to work with you on the project!

Cheers!

Great Physics. Do you use Newton???

Re: My project(screenshot&video) - 01/24/08 17:07

if you need help with learning how to use specularity maps, there are several people on the forum that can help you, I would, Im pretty sure xXxGuitar511 would as well (the one who modified and improved the wiki normal mapping shader) other than that its looking nice.... *is reminded of penumbra*

Re: My project(screenshot&video) - 01/24/08 20:59

Great work.

I really like the first part of the video in the creepy cell. The sounds are also spot on.

Out of interest, are the levels made up of WED models or are you using shaders on level blocks?

Thank you,

Re: My project(screenshot&video) - 01/24/08 21:12

nice...some of those objects on the road look out of place. may be because of the mentioned shader.
it's: "it's locked", not "it's lock" btw...

Re: My project(screenshot&video) - 01/24/08 22:40

..Looks good. As mentioned several times before, you should setup some specular maps (as mentioned, I wouldn't mind helping with that). Physics look good, through gravity is a bit slow. If your using Newton, I had this problem too (can help with that as well).

Also, your camera for the car. Make sure you do a proc_late() first, so that it doesn't lag and fall behind the car

Re: My project(screenshot&video) - 01/24/08 22:41

Awesome job, like other people said it looks too glossy, but very cool. Reminds me a lot of good, old Half-Life 2

Yes.

i use model. Not wed's blocks. i use CB Model Pro for my models.
But some model created in the wed and exported mdl7 and modified.(sorry for my bad speak english)

Thanks. My speak english really very bad.

Yes! I like Penumbra!

Yes i know. Thanks. This is Matt_Aufderheide's shader.(in the massive shader collection)but i modified it.(included fog support, color rgb etc.)

Yes. This is an adventure game.

And thanks for all comment.

Re: My project(screenshot&video) - 01/25/08 03:55

its very nice to look at, except the normal maps are way too shiny. it keeps distracting me. i was actually almost turned off of your post when i saw the first picture. but i have patience and i scrolled. and found the rest of the pictures to be really good. just the normal maps as many people have said.

how can i fix the normal maps.
you can a make smaller model and scale them to lessen the intensity of the nm.(not very good idea. hard to predict outcome.)
you can work with the alpha channel adjusting the brightness and contrast.(good idea. more control).

hope that helps.

Not more to be said I guess since most of the users pointed out your working points already
Anyway, great start !!

Cheers

Re: My project(screenshot&video) - 01/25/08 20:34

Hmm I guess I don't have to mention a special problem again...:P
I like it. Just at the part, where you took that one brick and the others felt down Newton had some really hard seconds calculating it. xXxGuitar said there is a way to improve it?

Keep up the good work

Re: My project(screenshot&video) - 01/26/08 20:31

Dear friends.
You know my english is not very good. Thats why i can't understand your post very clearly. But now i read your comment again with my friend. Now i understant better. Thank you very much for want to help, xXxGuitar511 and all friends. xXxGuitar511 helped to me before.
All the message effect to me very good. They are very important for me.
Gravity is mention some of the messages. When i recording the game to video i used "Fraps". Thats why game performance is decrease and physics too.
(Normaly fps is "60", but if i recording game, fps is down to "25")
If you think this problems origins is different, can you explain again?
So i will be happy if xXxGuitar511 help to me.
Thank you very much all of the friends

good work but it looks like plastic.

Re: My project(screenshot&video) - 03/02/08 09:08

You've made a great start, must have taken a while to implement everything you have. May I ask how you coded the physics object movement (to move at the centre of the camera screen)?
Posted By: Emre

Re: My project(screenshot&video) - 03/02/08 14:53

I use an old newton dll. Similar code in the "newton game dynamics tutorials."
http://www.coniserver.net/down/setupngd.exe
"\Newton\newtonTutorials\pool\newton_physics.wdl"
"gravitation_gun" function.
