ConceptArt - 03/10/08 20:00

Just because I'm still here and fixing the zombie game... and because I'm from time to time working on a little fighting game concept in 3DGS I will post a concept art for this fighting game I have been working on lately for a competition.
This is actually my most serious attempt to make a full and finished image, and I am pretty happy with the result. But also I’m more than happy to take any critic and/or tips on how to make it better :]

She is a fire Sorceress character that will mainly use here spells to attack with, even though she also will have a sword.

I'm not an artist so don't expect any good constructiv critic.
But I have to say:
WOW! very nice.
I like the style.

Now some critic:
I don't "feel" the fire. What I mean is that I dont recognize it as "hot".
But I have no freaking clue how to achieve that.
Maybe a higher contrast between fire and the rest of the image?

Other than that: very good work!

Qua look and shape it's all perfect if you ask me
But I can confirm with what Firo mentioned, the look is there but the feeling isn't fully present (yet ^^)
Amazing artistic skills though !!

Cheers

Thats... thats about all the useful criticism you can get from me as far as drawings are concerned. I'm sorry.

I tried to play around with its contrast, and I totally ruined it

Rats.

So that didn't work either, my post is still not very helpful. What now? Quick, think of something! Anything!

Uhm... the black things right behind her. Are those hurricanes or just some black things or what? It kind of looks cool, but I don't know what it is.

And... oh, forget it. It's too late. You can't be helpful in every post. You... you just can't.

As it's a really awesome picture I only can complain about her head. It just doesn't fit to the rest of the character imo. Might be because of the too egg like shape which makes the hair look like a peruke...

Enjoy your meal

actually. i think it looks pretty cool when you played around with it. gave it more depth and made the fire a bit more recognizable as hot. not to say that the origonal picture did not compare because theyre both equally awesome. just the fire looks more believable and i like the depth.

the art is veryy good work! congrats!

however, whats it with thhose fantasy outfits.
i mean, im a warrior sort of, but i cannot really see any sense in all those fantasy clothings of fantasy games. you canntomove with them, tehy dont keep you save, they are in the ay and basically useless.
so much for reality in fantasy...

She looks like she'd be in peace, after a battle. I can't say is she strong or weak, just that she has finally reached the heaven.

Good concept.

Oh, and for crits, it's plain boring. There is no intensity in the picture. The hand positions are boring too.

It may be, that the general ambience and lack of coloral range is what makes it too plain =(

Try to add more depth to the pic and raise the lady's head upwards, so that she looks upwards, eyes open.

Take this as an example, simple, yet it has something that makes it alive:

The thing with here facing the skies was planed, but i don't know why i did not end up like that, i guess its because i ran out of time and just painted it as fast as possible.. and missed that when i came to panting the head.

And the colour scheme is supposed to be pretty grey and read/orange, but it actually have some green and blue in there too... but you are right... it could not hurt with some more colours. But again its not meant for this particular image :]

Concerning the pose with here hands, I knew it was a little to standard/classic pose when I painted it.. but I cant be helped.. that’s the pose she was supposed to have ^^
I should though have chosen a more frog perspective (I don't know if that’s a real English term or not) that would have given her a mightier feeling

And concerning that image you linked... its pretty nice.. but its much easier if you can have a that standard wind blowing from certain direction and have ONE real light source.. i'm not saying that its no good, its a pretty nice image actually .. i'm just saying that i aimed on a little to hard concept for my first real image... it has 4 big light sources and a wind blowing from below... >.< And that’s for shore nothing my soon upcoming images will have ;D.. I will stick to 1-3 light sources of different power, and not to complex wind situations :]

About the comment about here very fantasy looking armour I got earlier... I can just say that you will have to aim for the right audience ^^ most gamers do not demand total realism and many fantasy fans does like armours that just look cool… if you asks me.
And actually the armour design is pretty okay, every armour part is designed so that it won’t stop any normal movements. She will be engaged in mostly close combat and that’s what the armour is built fore. A armour that will give god protection on the most vital parts (exept the head) in close combat, the arms and legs… and hear real protection is in her magic, especially concerning long-range-weapons.
The footing and kneepads are also for moving around in rough undergrowth and climbing and stuff… all the characters in this game will have more than just fighting equipment… even though this one is depending on some big amount of magic ^^

Thanks for all the critic so far, i will try to remember as much as possible when i make my next concept
