Project reSupercat - 08/03/10 05:49

This is a reboot of my old Supercat project that I had started in high school.

The gameplay is GENERALLY the same as the original.
The story probably won't be too different, maybe a little simplified.

College is making me code better. I wanted to continue with my Supercat project but can't stand to work with my old messy inefficient code anymore, so I'm starting it over with all the new things I've learned! At least my old art assets are still good laugh

By writing my code in a way that I can apply each function to as many different entities as possible, I've got movement, basic "physics", basic enemies, and attacks done much faster, and much more efficiently than I originally did a year and a half ago.

For now, here are some music tracks I made for the game.
The game will have a sort of chiptune soundtrack, to which I might add real instruments or remixing later.

EDIT: Here's a demo demonstrating the fist-fighting mechanics, and a little platform jumping!

I remember this, and playing the old demo. I'm doing the same thing with re-using the same functions for similar 'types'. Demo looks good so far, keep at it and good luck !

Oh and same city I am in!

@Rich- I've come a long way since the old demos. Over the past couple of days I managed to recreate what was originally a month of work... and everything is smoother and more efficient.

Also... FLYING CRANE-STYLE DEMO UPDATE SPECIAL ATTACK!!

New things, and things not mentioned in the first post
Controls: Arrow keys, Space bar, Z, X, C
Pressing Z once will activate a light jab attack.
If you immediately hit Z again that light jab changes to a slower, but stronger punch with the other arm.

Pressing X once is used for interacting with things. Double-tapping X gets the cat to launch out of the armor. (you can 'interact' with the armor to get back inside)

Currently if you hold C you will walk instead of run, which will later be used for being sneaky and quiet (as an armored metal soldier cat can be). I might change how walking vs running is handled later to free up the C key for other functions though.

You can use Q and W to rotate the camera left and right, and the view will stop on convenient 45-degree increments... which is nice when you're trying to walk along a narrow ledge.

Pressing E will cycle through different vertical camera angles, to get a better view of things.

There's also a boss. It's based on the tank boss from the older demos, but works out a bit more smoothly now. It's not at all final but does currently have the usual features of a boss, like attacking, having boss music, the attacks are strong but avoidable if you're careful, and it can be defeated- causing victory music! grin
