Lamborghini - 07/12/06 18:08

Today i started to model a Lamborghini Gallardo.
After few hours, here's the result, it has 1376 triangles and 742 vertices.
What's your opinion about it? Any suggestions to change something?

Now i'm adding details to it.

Re: Lamborghini - 07/12/06 18:16

well, i dont know about cars, so i dont know if its accurate, but it sure looks pretty

Re: Lamborghini - 07/12/06 18:16

That looks like a really good start! I can't really suggest anything, 'cause I have no idea what the car looks like. But from what I do know about cars in general, this looks very nice.

Re: Lamborghini - 07/12/06 18:42

About the accuracy, the car front fits the photo and blueprint very well, but the rear doesn't so i will model it according to photo.
Here's the wireframe matched to the photo.

@beegee, it doesn't have a skin yet

Re: Lamborghini - 07/13/06 20:16

Pretty accurate so far. You've utilized the polies quite good to this point. I'm not real familier with this particular Lamborghini model, but it looks quite nice. Lambos always excel in performence and style.

Some things I did spot from the photo. You are missing the intakes on the rear fenders and the rear spioler. The rear hood might be transparent, but I'm not real familier with this car.

Keep it up! I'm a huge car fanatic!

I just betcha he's using 3D Studio Max and Knows how to UV Map

Looks great, nice work.

I do have once complaints, you could have baked all the details into a normal map...

Sure, Autodesk.com for about $3000 Great tool, love it.

If your a student you can grab it for about $500 USD.

Yes i'm using 3D Studio Max and i'm going to bake the details to normal map.
Now i will add a little more details to some parts and then i'll make side mirrors.

Re: Lamborghini - 07/16/06 10:32

Added side mirrors and exhaust. I think modeling is finished, now comes the hardest part, to texture it.

Re: Lamborghini - 07/16/06 12:35

Well I'm just back from my holiday and it
seems that I have misted alot of new topics so
why not start with this exellent topic !!!

The Lamborghini Gallardo, mmmmm what a car,
I have always loved cars but I had a crush on this one
It's actually from the Audi department so I guess you all know now
which car mark I adore
Here are my C&C:

There is actually nothing negative to talk about
except for this part, you said:
Quote:

I think modeling is finished

What about the tires LOL ??

Another thing, you forgot the Lamborigi symbol
but I don't know if that's legal if you put it on
the car, better ask conitect about that

Well that's it, so far because you said you're
going to skin it now but I think that modeling
the car itself is even harder. I guess if
you can model something like this, you're
quite a talented guy !!!!

Cheers

About the Lamborghini symbol i didn't knew is that legal or not, so didn't put it on.

Re: Lamborghini - 07/16/06 15:11

i would model the lamps too.
Posted By: 3DRichard

Re: Lamborghini - 07/16/06 20:51

Thanks for the advice phil3d, i will try to model the lamps, but the result wouldn't be very good, because i haven't found any good reference photos of them.
Posted By: phil3d

Re: Lamborghini - 07/17/06 07:30

when u make the lamps just with a texture it looks very strange from some pserpectives. when u use a texture where u see the lamps from above the car will look strange from the front for example. u can surely spend more polies depends on what u are doing with it.

gta san andreas cars have around 3000-5000 polies
any new racing game for ps2 or something has around 20000-100000
just an advice

Well I think it's normal that the cars in GTA san andreas have around
3000-5000 polies, it's a big world out there in san andreas
Beside, the PS2 power can't handle a big world WITH cars around 20000-100000 polies
I'll quess we'll have to wait until november 2006 for the PS3.
I think the cars in the new GTA on the PS3 will be over 100000 polies easily.
Sorry to go off topic but I just can't wait to get the PS3

Why not? Modeling only takes a little getting used to. Once you understand the program, you can create anything you want, no matter the age.

Anyways, cool car model. Looks good. Better than what I could do and I'm 19!

Re: Lamborghini - 07/18/06 17:23

This Lamborghini is only my fourth attempt to model a car, so it isn't that good and
i'm having problems with texturing, because my previous cars weren't textured.
Right now i'm searching for tutorials how to create good textures for cars,
so instead making texture i'm modeling wheels, later will be lamps and maybe simple interior.

Take your time 3DRichard, the more time you are spending on this the better the result will be !!
I know that modeling a tyre isn't that easy and it is even harder to make the appropriate skin for your mesh from the tyre.
I think I know where'd you got you're inspiration, one of the following two pictures from google:

http://www.jamesaevans.com/images/threedy/Gallardo%20Wheel%20-%2029a.jpg

And I can tell you, yes great choise, that's what I call Lamborghini style !!

Just keep up the great work, this could be one of the best 3DGS car I have ever seen here on the forum !!!!
Oh and btw if you're starting you cars animation don't forget to include the special way of how the doors open, other it isn't a thrue Lamborghini Gallardo :

Looks great..
But the wheels are too thin, and the tread pattern is all wrong for a car like a lambo.

And frazzle id otn know if its the best, but it is up there
(there wasa really nice high poly RX8 posted some time ago)

any ways keep up the great work, i perosnally hate modelling cars.. for some reason i could never get them to look right....

Re: Lamborghini - 07/22/06 01:31

Nice man! The wheel isa little thin and the treads are way too bright. Just darken them and they should look right.

Your just lazy...

Texture is looking good, looking forward to seeing more.

Re: Lamborghini - 07/22/06 07:17

That was the front wheel, i agree that it is too thin, but i made it according to blueprint and it is 20 CM width.
I googled this
Quote:

Front Wheels: 19 x 21 IN / 48.3 x 53.3 CM
Rear Wheels: 19 x 28 IN / 48.3 x 71.1 CM
car body:
Length: 169.3 IN / 4300 MM
Width: 74.8 IN / 1900 MM
Height: 45.9 IN / 1166 MM

But when i make the wheels that wide, here's the result.

the upper front wheels are 20 CM width and rear wheels are 30 CM width
the lower front wheels are 53,3 CM width and rear wheels are 71,1 CM width.

About the tread pattern
I googled this
Quote:

Front Tires: 235/35 ZR 19
Rear Tires: 295/30 ZR 19

so i found this zr 19

and made texture from it.

Re: Lamborghini - 07/22/06 21:54

hmm i dont know, they just look too thin.. then they lok to wide

Not the best picture but it sort of shows the wheel widths..

Great Work.
Just one Question.
What you want to do with this model?
You can not sell it, you can not use it in a game.
Or do you have a licence for it?
Posted By: 3DRichard

Re: Lamborghini - 07/23/06 09:29

Well, i'm making this car for learning purpose and testing my skils.

No, i'm not going to sell it, because i don't have a licence, but i'm curious
what about all those Lamborghini cars in the internet shops(for example turbosquid), does all their creators have licenses?
Posted By: Kaylie

Re: Lamborghini - 07/23/06 10:06

I don't know if they have a licence.
It's strange that a shop sells Lamborghini models and don't get problems.
I don't know anything about cars, but i now that you can not use copyrighted material. even not in a free product.

Very impressive! The headlights are very nice. The shape of the car is perfect.

From the side the tires seem just a hair short in diameter. I'm referencing from the pic you used earlier. They just seemed to fill just a little more.
Posted By: ISG

Re: Lamborghini - 07/23/06 20:02

I think your tires are to "thin" from a side view. Add more to it and everything would look more proportional. Nice job so far though, really great work. Intersted to see how (if at all) the texturing comes out with it!

Re: Lamborghini - 07/25/06 11:05

besides all fame and halleluja, some crits:
1) why are the front lamp cases black?
2) the rear light really need some rework, it just looks flat.
3) your baked texture must be giant, judging the smoothness of your shadows. i once did so with a car as well, but if it's a game-model, just keep the skin plain yellow (and very small), the engine does shading etc. all by itself.
4) for me, the tires don't fit, but that discussion's already passed. the spokes are too flat and need some curvature (dunno if it's the right word)

congrats for the overall shape and smoothness, looks professional.

Foe now the skin is 1024x1024 and it's without shadows, later i'm going to make a smaller one, the shadows are so smooth because i rendered with skylight.

cool, i thought it was much larger (around double or quad), but hey, 1024² is ok. i just said it because of the smoothness of your shadows... nevermind.
