cloudy skydome for free - 04/14/07 19:31

Hello,

here is a cloudy skydome I created. You can do with it whatever you want as long as you don't resell it .
Here is what it looks like:

and here is the skydome (in .tga format; 1024*512): http://www.novissimus.de/cloudy_panorama.tga

Critics are not only welcome, but also desired.

right now, there are 81 views and no reply.

Is the skydome that bad, or don't you have any use for it? If it isn't good, please tell me what I could improve.

Well this isn't bad !!
But mostly they make a skydome texture like this

Try asking Frank_G for more information.

But yours can work aswell I think, I never tried it that way

What you showed me are textures, that will be mapped on a cube. But my texture will be mapped on a sphere.

Skycubes are (as far as I know) only used for games. Skydomes are also used for 3D renderings.

If you do a sky cube correctly, it won't look like a cube, it will look as good as your map. Skydomes are fine too, but not quite as good. They're just easier to make...

A skycube is better? I didn't know that. Why?

If a cube is better...why are skycubes never used for 3D renderings? (Always spherical skies)

@Sam_Be I don't really understand what you mean . My sky is smaller than 2048 pixels (1024*512). Could you please further describe your problem? What did you do, etc...

@All Thank you for your kind words

Thanks Efrint, very useful.

Sam_Be, Dont you think its better to have a high resolution image you can easily scale down, than having to scale a low resolution image up?

hey, nice job on the dome
thanks for the contribution.

btw - what program are you using to make them?

Re: cloudy skydome for free - 04/16/07 14:39

Skycubes handle higher resolutions better (1024^2 per side is good).

As said earlier, skycubes do not look cubic at all. You cannot tell the difference between the two if they are done correctly.

i ment this:

and as i know the texture has the size of over 3000 pix.

Re: cloudy skydome for free - 04/16/07 17:00

@Sam_Be now I understand your problem. You assigned the skydome to your level with a script but as a skycube. The file is not a "+6 file". You have to map it on a sphere and place that sphere around your main-character/scene/map/whatever (At least this is the way I would do it)

@pocorev I use a little bit c4d and a little bit photoshop.

@all Thanks again for your kind words

ps i didn'd add any scripts to my level.

Re: cloudy skydome for free - 04/16/07 18:21

i added the model normaly to my level like any other model

Re: cloudy skydome for free - 04/16/07 18:23

so you assigned the texture to a sphere and added this model to your scene?

Do you have icq? Then we could discuss this better.
