Re: Aum49 - 06/29/05 15:43

Will AUM50 be a bigger magazine(jubilee)?

SOon, the 50th AUM - the magazines are great, they helped me to understand 3DGS...

Yes, great Mag. You have discussed many of the things involving huge levels, the timing is perfect at least for me. I dont mind if you continue to discuss the subject further as it seems to be something that more and more people are interested in.

Something about multiplayer things or something about unpredictable NPCs would also be a great read. ("Unpredictable NPCs" meaning people that walk in a city environment and do stuff randomly but not too randomly: eat, "chat with each other", hang around. Get my point?

Constructiveness:
You said in another thread that eventually the magazine will renew its layout. So, i would recommend that the magazine would be at the same time moved to some sort of Content Management System. That way making an index/keyword-list of every new magazine would be a fairly automated procedure. In the end it would save time, there's other benefits as well...

Dear friends,

Thank you for the kind words. I plan to change Aum's content in the near future and I hope that you'll like the new version even better.
Sims-like entities, as well as simple multiplayer templates, are on my todo list; I've got a long list though
I also plan to make the future Aums searchable; does any of you use a program that can do that? I could use Microsoft's html help (chm) but I'd like to use something friendly.

Nice contribution as always, George.

The interview with Ice Bytes was the most interesting part this time.

Thanks!!

Re: Aum49 - 07/06/05 07:46

Hi George,
This might be a good one for a FAQ.

I am developing a turn based strategy game with tanks similar to Scorched Earth.
I need to be able to get distance of the opponant in a pop-up panel and controll the tilt and pan of the tank barrel as well as the power of the artillery shell, thru the panel similar to the panel in your Fogger article from AUM 25.
It would be good if the controll could also be given for the mouse.

Perhaps also, finding distance from mouse_ent.
Cheers.

Re: Aum49 - 07/08/05 11:46

Nemisis: getting the distance from your tank (camera, whatever) to the enemy is pretty simple if you assign a different pointer to each enemy tank.
distance = vec_dist(camera.x, tank23.x);
Put this line inside a while(1) loop and you are done with that. Please use my code sample for "Thanks" if you want to control the barrel using the mouse. I will answer your question regarding mouse_ent in the following magazine.
Have a nice day.
George.

Re: Aum49 - 07/08/05 15:58

Yes, C++ would be very interesting!!
