Aum 57 levelbump - 08/02/07 15:35

Tried the levelbump level from aum 57 and all i see when i run it is black with some swirls where the wall texture is suppose to be.
Before you ask i have a
Nividia GeForce FX5200 256mb pure T&L card with the most up to date drivers i can find.
Any ideas why i can't see the wall texture.?

Maybe your graphics card doesn't support shaders? Or says it does, but not really.

Could be.? Anyone know a good card that does, that won't kill the budget?

for round about 80 €...

Would be a good choice or a Nvidia equivalent off course, but for the mid-range directx 9 cards 80€ (100$ or so?) seems about right. It would not make sense to buy a dx10 budget card if your pc is very old, but those are also around 100$, what kind of system do you have at the moment?

Cheers

ok, problem not quite solved. The material works in that test level(which is nothing more than a cube, but when i apply that same texture and material to my outdoor level, it just becomes a big white blob. any ideas why it will work in the tesy level and not a outdoor level?

You need to edit a few more things; please read the explanations at the end of the article in Aum57. Anyway, I wouldn't recommend this effect for a full sized level; if you use models for your level you'll get a greater frame rate and a better looking game.

problem solved with the new Graphics Card
but I think you just forget that george says at the beginning of the articles, that he stated :
This month we will examine a good looking fixed function pipeline bump mapping effect, which should run fine even on ancient cards like the GeForce2.

Re: Aum 57 levelbump - 08/06/07 11:08

he was wrong and nvidia lied about the ability of the fx5200 card because the shaders wouldn't show
