FBX - 02/03/07 18:40

Hello JCL

A7 will support FBX file format
What's the advantage ?
As far as I know FBX is the native file format of the MotionBuilder animation package.
I dont think it is popular in the Indie comunity ,being quite expensive
Probabli the XSI file format would be of more use thanks to the economic XSI foundation package

By the way , I do hope that A7 will support bone animation with more than one vertex per bone
This is really a a main issue, please confirm

Moreove what " ingame editor " is ?

Thanks in advance

FBX is very popular and used in many good 3D software like Maya, 3D Studio Max, ...
It's the first standard with the possibility to export and import most content like mesh, camera, lights, vertex colors, bones and more.

Maya , 3d studio Max...

Aside from warez copies , how many hobbyest game programmers can afford these packages ?

Not only the big 3D Software are using FBX, also some other for lower budegt.
Here is a 3D Software (only texturemapping) for ~$50 with FBX Support: http://www.unwrap3d.com/news.aspx
And here another (free?) 3D Software supporting FBX: http://www.wings3d.com/

Modo uses FBX too, so I would like to keep FBX.

fbx support was one big reason for me to buy Gamestudio! I use Cinema4D to model etc., by the way (which exports to fbx and is quite affordable (compared to 3DSMax and Maya etc., too)
