Can You Copy Skeleton Animation?

Can You Copy Skeleton Animation? - 11/04/07 01:17

In a nutshell: How do you copy the bone movements of one character to another?
I have a character that is fully animated with bones. I have clothes for him that has a skelenton but is not animated. Reason for this I want to attach the different clothes items and have them copy the bone animations of the main character but keep the filesize down. The only other solution would be animate every piece of clothing and bring it into wed but that would make the filesize huge. I've searhed and came up empty. Can anyone help me out because this is bringing my project to a stop.

It was a good idea to tell which 3d software are you using.

If youŽre using 3ds max, for example, and using biped skeleton, you just need to export .bip file animation from the first model, and then load it into second model and youŽll have the same animation on both models.

Hope it helps.

Thanks for being the only one to respond, but you misunderstood me. Without having to animate every individual item of clothing,(like pants for example) how can I in WED duplicate the main characters movements?

In MED, go to:

1. Edit
2. Manage Frames

In that window you will see a button that says "Export to ASCII". You can export your frames of animation to an ASCII file, then import that into another file. I;m pretty sure the skeletons have to have the same amount of bones, and the same names to successfully import.

Do you mean Model Editor, or World Editor?
