snd_play when window out of focus

snd_play does not play the sound when the window is out of focus whereas media_play does. I like using snd_play because the sound file does not have to be included in the work folder (and can be packed into a resource), but I'd like it to play the sound even when the window is out of focus. I don't know if this would be an easy option to add (I can see why some people would not want the sound to play if the window is not in focus)
