Google Native Client in action

Google Native Client in action - 12/09/11 15:08

I remember ventilator (I think) brought this up before. Now you can see it in action with the Bastion demo (and unlock the full game if you like it) -- I absolutely love this game, but unfortunately the Chrome version doesn't support gamepad. I don't know if that's a limitation of Native Client, but still, it's pretty groovy.

Rock Paper Shotgun has all the nice details and a link.

yes, native client doesn't support access to gamepads yet but they will add an API for this in the future.

i find this technology very interesting. it's operating system independent already and in the future it will also be cpu independent (by using llvm bytecode). all platforms (win/osx/linux, tablets, phones,...) could be covered with one solution.

it would be ideal for gamestudio but looking at the low activity on the beta features page recently i gave up all hope. laugh

...
i also think this is the end of flash. adobe's last hope for flash is to make it a strong technology for 3d-games but who needs that if something like native client is available?

Yeah, I'd love it if GS supported it frown Just one platform so we can use them all!

After KarBOOM, I feel like I'll have to learn to use a new engine (or write my own), because I just get so many requests for Mac support (and some for Linux). But I'd love to stay with GS if we could get cross-platform support at least for Mac!
