Fire Effect: Using GIF Animations in GameStudio? - 01/17/11 20:45

Hello,

I`m wondering if there`s a way to use GIF animations in GameStudio A7. I want to create a good-looking fire effect for oil barrels that is 2D animation based. I don`t want to use particles anymore because they`re very slow and just don`t look realistic for fire. Is there a way to do this?
If not: Would you share a great and fast particle-based fire effect? wink

I`m aiming for this:

Convert the gif animation into a sprite+X.tga/bmp/pcx. The sprites with several flames are explained in the manual.

Silly question: How can I convert gifs into a+x.tga animation (+ alpha channel)?

Use "Irfan View".

Before I spend days on a new fire effect: There`s no predefined one? No simple TGA-animation, no simple particle effect that looks at least a bit like fire and doesn`t kill the performance?

Not really I don't think. I'd imagine Conitec advises users to use particles for fire--though your reasons for not wanting to are legitimate. That said... there HAS to be one floating around on the internet, eh?

This is why I think Game Studio should support GIFs. Simple GIF support would make everything easier. There would be no need for Irfan views or extra needed code.
