Canīt open DirectX device - 04/12/12 21:35

iīm trying to use gamestudio in a virtual machine (that would be easier to test my software under different operating systems)

iīve installed directx 9.29 (June 2010) and the latest gs version. os is win7

settings of virtual box are:
- 2D video and 3D accelleration on
- 128MB graphics ram
- 1600MB ram

did anyone tried gamestudio in a vm? is this possible? ^^
if yes, how?

I never had succes with Virtual Box, but VMWare (fusion) worked for me (and I'm pretty sure that there is a VMWare for Windows too)

Ive tried a few different VM-wares, but I cant remember which ones sorry.
And I didnt have any sucess with any on them. Same error as you.

BUT, I was a noob with all these apps, so there may have been a config issue
that I was missing.

In a nutshell, all the VM sessions I created only had "generic" video-card
emulation that did not support ANY shader models, and GS was rejecting it
out of hand...

I didnt have any success solving this issue .. but I didnt try real hard either...

Hope this helps you in some way...

I had success with VirtualBox and Windows XP. Did you install the driver (guest extensions)?

yes it's possible with virtual box
you have to install the guest extensions in save mode and add direct3d support
that*s it

i had installed the guest additions.

but
- install guest extensions in save mode with d3d-support
- 3d accelleration off

and the engine runs on win7 in virtual box
thanks for the hint, felix laugh
