I'm so dense, I can't believe I'm not committed...

I'm using the cbabe.mdl (test purposes only) and a gun model (placed on the ground to be picked up). Both have been scaled to proportion correctly. Now, when I pick up the gun, in 1st person mode it appears way over on the right and to the bottom of the screen and I'm stuffing around with the x/y/z origins which doesn't seem to move it. Also in 3rd person or static cam mode, the gun appears between her legs!! I guess this is the centre of the player model.

This happens with any gun I give her. I want the gun to be dead centre and just down a bit from the crosshair in 1st person and hopefully in her hand in 3rd person, but I don't know how to do that and I can't find anything relating to it in the forum. Can anybody help me with this? Thanks in advance.

Hello!
You have to merge the two models in med.
There's a tutorial about it.It's called "Attaching entities" or something like that. You'll find it at the resource site.
Hope this was useful...

'You have to merge the two models in med.'

not particularly neccisary

for 1st person mode you would define it as a view entity
( see the script example for the shotgun on screen in the manual)
for 3rd person mode you would either have to attach the model by vertex attachment ( is a demo of this on acknex site)

or possition and animate the gun to match the player entity ( see the handgun model that comes with cbabe)

Ok, thanks. If I merge the gun with the figure, can I make it so that the gun does not appear in 3rd person mode, yet still visible in 1st person?

not that I can think of.

un;ess you can get creative by texture maping the gun to a 2nd skin and enlarging the skin area size, makign the enlarge part transparent then by fixed function UV shift that 2nd skin depending on the view mode your in ( first person vs 3rd person).

But i've never tried it or seen if it could be done that way.

your better off attaching for 3rd person view and view entity for 1st person and and toggle visability as needed that way.

I'm nowhere near that level of experience. I might just merge the two models and have nothing showing in 1st person, just crosshairs. At least until I get some more experience with scripting. I'm still wet behind the ears. On the other hand, if it's graphics art, texturing or audio engineering, you could'nt find many as skilled as I. (Shameless self plug)
