Hey all, just thought id write a post both to Conitec and all the members of this forum who are hoping to get into the industry, proof that it can be done!
It was about 6 years ago that I started really getting interested in the development process of games wanting to find out how it could be done, after purchasing several 'teach yourself game programming' books with little sucess I stumbled across 3D Game Studio. I quickly got the demo which gave me the initial drive to start developing, I thoroghly enjoyed the level editing but couldnt get to grips with the programming.
So what next, as Id just finished my GCSE's at school I decided to goto college and study Computing and IT, a chance for me to finally start learning how to program. The language we were taught: Visual basic, while this was simple the little apps and games I made fueled me futher and got me back to 3DGS, which is when i decided to purchase it, all of a sudden the scripting made sence and I started writing my own games.
After college I then decided to take things further and went to uni, my choice: 'Computer Games Software Development' of course! It was here that I was taught Java in the first year and then moved onto C++ developing games on PS2 with SDL, then learning the 3d physics and maths required before developing my own enigine using OpenGL. Three years later, graudation, and a chance to get into the industry.
After a week of writing and rewriting a cv I got a phonecall from EA offering me a postion programming missions, one 3 hour long interview with various members of staff , and a month later I am programming on the new Harry Potter title!
Just proof that if you stick with it you can get in!
Thanks conitec! Chris

Sounds nice! Is it difficult? Do you work at home, or in an office?
