I can't even get through the damn work shops! please tell me where I'm going wrong. I'm doing work shop 10 (adding an action) but when ever I change something in the SED it takes no effect in the WED. I have tried saving over and over. I've tried reloading the WED, building the level again before I run with the new code I put in the SED. but nothing changes when i load the level. Please help frustration got me ready to put 3dstudio in the recycle bin

another problem I had going through the debug workshop. When ever I put something on the watch list the VAr had no value and would not even test run.

It's some time ago that I did the workshops, but I cant remember having any problems with workshop 10 and the debugger workshop.

Most workshops have only one single script, so when you change that script and your changes have no effect when you run it, well that looks like a sort of miracle. But I rather think you either haven't changed the right things, or you haven't saved it, or you're editing a different script that you run. Should be easy to find out what it is. Check the file-to-run settings in SED. There are no miracles on a PC even if it sometimes lets you think so.

I believe watches were not supported by old versions, they only work from 6.40 on.

If you run your level in WED, probably you haven't check the "Auto" flag
of "Reload of Externally modified" in File->Preferences->Advanced.....
WED won't run your updated script if it is not checked.

right, vlau, but that sentence is strange:
Quote:

I've tried reloading the WED

After reloading even without "Auto" flag, all has to work... Very strange.

Uhm, I've tried it in A6.4, if I changed some codes in SED (without
quit and save), the level won't run with the codes I've made, even
reload WED. (the flag is set to disable by default)

May be he has an older version, then I don't know.

Hi,
have you chosen the right script in the map properties?
Are you working with the script file that is selected in the map properties?
If you are working with a diffrent script, have you included it in your main script?

cheers

WED reload is only needed for WED functions, like publish or skill names, but not for starting the script. Starting script uses the engine and that reads the script straight from harddisk so it does not matter if you reload WED or not.

I also havent had any problems with the workshops, so you seem to be just starting the wrong script or something simple like that. Check SED preferences, there you can set the script to run. And when you save the script make sure that you save it in the right directory.

ok I want to thank everyone for the immediate help. this is the most helpful forum I have ever been on. I have the newest game engine 6.40.5. But I figured out where I went wrong I was opening SED loading the script editing it and saving it. Then opening WED and the script was not changing. What I should have been doing was opening WED and then opening the SED by directly going to the script file under the resources of the level. I don't know why the other way didn't work I mean it is the same file either way right?

ok the watches still puzzle me.. the first time I tried it, it worked. but now I type in the VAR energy and it says 0 when I try to run the test it says energy not available causes errors and closes
