I have seen alot of conflicting posts if Game Studio can support multiplayer. Now Im developing a little social based chat world, will GS be able to handle this or not? Is alot of modification needed? What is the real story here? Thank you!

Of course it supports multiplayer (That is if you have Comm or Pro). However, the question I think your refering to is if it will support large quantities of players and data, such as an MMORPG or a world-based chat (Which would require pro).

First things first, you'd need the Professional version.

There has been alot of arguments on the networking speed (or lagging) of large multiplayer games in 3DGS. However, those who sayed it could not be done have no evidence to support their claims. But those who say it can be done, have already done it AND showed us examples and/or demos.

So in short, if you have the pro version then yes, you can. But it will also require a lot of other info such as server speed, efficiency of database usage (for storing IP's, titles, names, entities, etc).

if you are developing a "social based" world where you can walk around and chat only then gamestudio might be the right choice for you.

dont get pro until you are comfortable with the c-multiplayer scripting and have something stable with 4 players running.

have a look at the multiplayer forum there are lots of threads around dealing with this. the thing is NOT a single game where more than 4 players play over the internet without any problems has been made with gamestudio. if there is someone please show me.

there are some smaller demos out there that proof that its indeed possible but its by far the hardest task to do with gamestudio.

Thank you for the replies. I also received a email from the Company and they told me it can be done. However, as ulf stated you have to focus on it from the start as a multi-player game and not something like chess.

When I am ready for this step I'll look into it, I have alot more learning to do and am not in a rush.
