Hi folks

I've been trying to create a city thru which to race some cars.

I've found a city level called littlecity on the AU Resources link.

When I combine it with all the other stuff (track, paths, cars) the compilation takes 30 minutes or more.

I tried compiling littlecity as a map entity, figuring I don't need it to do anything other than sit there and serve as background. It compiled incredibly fast.

What are the positives and negatives of using map entities? If I recall correctly from last night, I can't size the map entity of littlecity - but that's not a big deal because I can size everything else (road, cars, paths etc)

Also, is this a correct use of a map entity?

Mark

There are some advantages and disadvantages to using an entity. First of all an entity compile faster and works the same as a non-entity but not a model(can't have animations like a model can). In a lit room or area it is obvious that it is an entity unless you go into the object properties by right-clicking on the entity and setting ambient to 100. Even this doesn't entirely fix that just so you know. Hope this helped you in any way. Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions and I'll try to answer them when I get the chance.

Just telling you, though it says I'm a newbie I'm not I just don't use the forum that often but in truth have been doing this sort of stuff for about two-three years and have read as much about programing and 3DGS as I can.

@NYPJM
u are not 100% correct
a entity dont need to compile...compile is just because the bsp-tree for levels (visibly-calculation)

PS:no double post..u can hit the edit button
