I've begun to notice, making a level is simple, coding not to difficult, and modeling rather easy. The hardest part of making the game is deciding "what is my game, what is the concept, the story?" I have been messing around with 3DGS since Winter, learning. I still haven't come up with a good idea that I can stick with. my ideas that are easy but crappy I use then abandon when I figure out they are crappy. My ideas that are great I worry about because of problems I've heard of like frame rates when you have to many units on the screen or I give up because I think the scale might be to large. Can I take some advice? What could I do to get out of this Developing Block Syndrome? Can someone pay me every time someone says that? just kidding, but really, can someone please help me, I'm sure it would help others in the long run.

I have decided to follow one idea while designing games.First think of what
game feel you want to create..like horror, fun etc...then base your story on it
and then the most important of all :- have some very unique things. This last
step will motivate and make you feel proud of your game..cheers and good luck !

I like good 'views' because they have no 'strings' attached..

Make minigames

get random idea "humm.. what if the ball would hit there... ha! a game.. muahaahahah.."

and develope it "hahahaaha.. *code code* mwhahahah *design* mhuoooaaaah *coffee*"

and publish it "I did it, I did it, heee!! "

and then maybe someone will ask you to join their projects

Hmmmmm coffee.
Best thing is when you come up with an idea, just write a DD (Desing Document) witch contains all of your idea's. So if you get lost in your project you've got something to hold on to

First some questions:

What are your reasons to say that one of your ideas is crappy?

When do you think that an idea is great?

First advices:

Write your ideas down, collect them, and read them from time to time. They will give you additional ideas. Ideas of how to combine them, new ideas, and ideas about what you like and dislike, and about what game you really want to make.
These are processes.

if you dont have any ideas try recreating something existing then, while developing new ideas will come to your mind how you could make it better, then implent them and finish the game, even if you think its bad.

Actually recreating games is a very good practise.
Try to look for a certain game, that is not too complex, and try to
reengeneer it as exact as possible. Just try to use your own Artwork and
sounds etc.
While some people might call this "uncreative", it is the best starting-point to
make a decent game. Later you can add some of your very own elements.

Wasteland TCW, actually is a recreation of Starcraft, just with my own Models, names and
Artwork. I never finished it, but when you play it, you can recognise quite a lot
of the same game-mechanics.

But this project is actually too big for me to ever finish to a full game.
So the game I am working currently is much smaller, but with the possibility to
finish it to a complete game.

Minigames are a good way to avoid what you call "Developing Block Syndrome" - you are generally finished with them as soon as you get bored. Plus, you get to try out a bunch of things that you can use for later, bigger projects. So yes, go ahead and make a few minigames! You'll likely get more replies than I did, so you don't have to worry about feedback:)*

If you want your game to be a little more "unique", you might also consider throwing ideas you liked from different games together.

I did this for my first "Experimental Game", and it turned out pretty well. Generally, letting thngs react on music is still a kind-of-new concept that still feels fresh, so hurry up and use it!

A few other things I've learnt and a great thread can be found here.
Consider it the lessons of a semi-successful experiment. Plus, there are also a bunch of fun games for you to try out. And if you comment on the blog, everybody wins! Horray!

* the concerned reader might be happy to hear that while I'm bitter, I'm still not full of hate yet.

Perhaps this post will get me points for originality at least.

Check out Dungeon Deities! It's amazing and will make you happy, successful and almost certainly more attractive! It might be true!
