For what I see, you don't use your imagination. Make concept art. Make it better, redo it, make it more lifelike, add small small details.

Redo it.

Then when you're satisified it, let your son rip it off and in frustration make new one, and then start to model.. slooowly.. use time on them and then when you have next-gen graphics, real time weaponchange, RIIIIIDGE RAAAACEEER!! and other stuff like that.
