Hello to all 3DGS and Winter Olympic Fans!
I have created a 3D Video Game of the 2010 Winter Olympics
to be held at Whistler in British Columbia, Canada.

I have been working with the International Olympic Committee.
(They move kind of slow!)

I hope to make this game available as a free download.
Then, everyone will be able to compete for
medals and big prizes.

Here are some screen shots...

At this point the project is 70 meg so I need to
change some files and minimize.

When I get the packed folder as small as possible,
I will be making this a free demo download (right here)
for your review and comments...

Thanks to all the great people at 3DGS...
Especially Luke S. for putting up with me...

BTW...
It has taken me years to figure out how to make this run smoothly...

(Below the pics are links to my youtube site...Check that out too...)

******If anyone wants to help... I'd love your assistance**********

Link to my YouTube Video of this Project...

I always have to repeat myself when people are using terrain:

USE DETAIL MAPS FOR GODS SAKE

Hey Michael...
Thanks for the response!
Show me a great example...
This is Satellite Imagery draped over an actual Digital Elevation Map (DEM)
I want to use Ariel photos but I have not yet been
able to get my hands on them...

I have not yet seen detail maps that float my boat…
I am looking for the real thing…
Point me towards great examples…
Thanks

Wow, super interesting !

Saw from the heli, the Landscape with the terrain formation looks really beautifull IMO. Very important the presence of the geographic data.

Also interesting the animals ( I dont know how its name is.. u know ) when you pass with the helicopter in the video, is interesting, seems that you put some life into the environment. Nice detail.

The helicopter blades could be something like this pic ? , anyway in the youtube we cant see exactly how is its movements, but I liked a lot the travel across the mountains, rivers, very well made, dude.

Some sort of a glimpse of the process involved with the usage of DEM data would be also purrrfectly interesting and muuuuch appreciated, if not a proprietary secret

Man after see all the video, fantastic job ! Congrats again ( I was writing´n watching )

I´m looking forward to see the game demo here, keep it up !

Hey Carloos...

Hows things in Brazil?
What town are you in?

I have been working in the design/engineering field for 25 years and I must say that is the best compliment ever... Your heli pic link does not work... There are two problems with the blades in the video 1.) I am running fraps to record the game... fraps chews up fps... And 2.) The computer runs at 60 htz. I think this sort of messes with what we see.... It does run better when only the game is running. BTW The animals are ELK. I'm still thinking about the sharing of the dem stuff.... Thanks again for the kind words...

Can see a lot of work went into the scene/atmosphere but little in the characters, both elks and skier as well as skier origin problem(Looks like the skier is hydroplaning but has'nt quite made it out of the snow.)

I like it a lot and I am sure this will evolve into a tight production.

Just to point a little something out, the contrast between snow and vegetation is too much, you need reflective ambience in the vegetation to light it up just ever so slightly to give it an 'alive' look/feel.

I would be very keen to see this completed.

Congrats on getting this far and for being represented at a major annual international event.

The terrain looks great, also I like the flying over it and the text labels. On the downside, I must say the overall impression is a little spoiled by amateurish models and lack of details. I would not show this demo outside this forum in its current unfinished state. But I think with a little effort it could become a great demo.

Some suggestions, above all add a detail map to the terrain, or better use the multitexture shader for different detail maps for snow, rock and so on. Activate shadows for moving models. Let the helicopter rotor blade rotate a little more realistic. Throw out that girl in the red dress and replace it by a more professional looking model with higher resolution and better animation.

everything in the scenes are too dark, in comparsion to the snow.

use detailmaps, but don't overuse them, which could destroy the feeling there is now.

also if you use DEM's for terrains, please also use more realistic skins for models that have to be done in higher polycount and more life-like, otherwise make the terrains yourself.

Everything. EVERYTHING must be one in a game. Now it looks like you took a shot and placed your first model to the foreground...

Just some of my two cents, keep the work up, use more and more time on this and keep the project running!
