Just wondering what everyon's take was on the differences between bmp, pcx, and tga images.

I think pcx beats bmp everyday simply due to size reasons.

tga adds alpha transparency, but how does the A5 engine use it?

Basically, what formats do people recommend using where, and why?

All this for assumed d3d mode.

Popular media is the opiate of the masses. Think for yourself.

I normally do the basic work using bmp simply because I can use paint for it and it doesnt use much memory running. Then other things I use Paint Shop Pro for other things and for converting bmp into pcx.

Alpha channels are good for sprites you want to see through etc.

For BMP and PCX in a WAD file, it doesn't matter. When WED brings the images into a WAD the same BMP and PCX image will be the same size.
