Version 1.5 of Walk About is here. The cave is as finished as its going to be...doesnt mean that there isnt LOTS of room for improvement. ive changed a few things in the forest...the changes shouldnt be that hard to notice. i used some lighting in the forest. dont you dare laugh at my fake bloom. i tried to fake a bloom effect with a particle effect. . it kinda works...
stand real close and it looks real ...
but now im working on the third part of the demo. i cant tell you what the third part is..because i want it to be like ...the big finish. so im keeping its identity a seceret. the downoad is on my website. sckratchmagazine.com. if your confused about where the download is you can contact customer support via our live chat icon...which is,ironicly enough, located next to the download links.
the download link is on the bottom of every single page underneath the words "featured downloads" and also we've decided on our first major project.

i cant tell you much about it because were trying to keep it cladnestine...but its an rpg and its called "Kuran"(not to be confused with the "queran").

peek around the website while your there. maybe even download one of the wallpapers we have(located on the solutions page).
there will be a video preview soon.

The updates you've done are visible but not huge which isn't a bad thing but players expect when you update your game to fix bugs, that the bugs from the previous version are really fixed. The bugs you should still work on are:
Old bugs:

  • Fix the movement of the trees because tree don't move with the little wind you've included. I'm mentioning a little wind which I'm infering from the movement of the leaves.
  • A collapsing sound during the cave is collapsing (logical ^^)
  • I've never mentioned this bug but I already noticed it a time ago. There seems to be an invisible 'wall' which is sometimes impenetrable so the movement of the player is stopped. Sometimes it is penetrable but it gives a shock to the camera while moving through it. It sound quite abstract but here's the area where it occurs:



And off course one new bug :


  • The shadows are good but through the shadows, I've noticed a little mistake at the house. The roof isn't fully finished or better, there is a large hole in it. The following pictures show it quite clear:




Now I'll list somethings that could be improved but these items aren't bugs:

  • The cave could use some lightning. Maybe add dynamic lights and add the normalmap shader Guitar and co. maded to the cave model. The visual result is pretty nice
  • Add a more sublime grass movement code to your grass sprites. I can see you've attached the same code to the grass as you've attached to the leaves. In reality, grass reacts different to wind than leaves do so try and make that difference in the code snippet too.
  • A couple of grass sprites are not touching the ground
  • Give every model (tree, fountain,...) a shadow too
  • The bloom shader in the cave is a nice try but I don't get the meaning behind it yet but that may change when you're ready with the final version of your demo which comes with a surprise like you've mentioned


Alot of working working points but I've confidence that you and your team will complete them and rework them until they look good !!

Thank you for your comments and all of the great pointers. I do tend to make a new thread when ever theres an update. why? it seems that people notice when theres a new thread. otherwise the thread is left alone or people dont bother it because they've seen it already. but i may be wrong. so ill stop that.

We'll work on those bugs and the random spot that stops the player...because ive noticed it too. i have no idea what it is but its making me mad . lol and the poll doesnt make me feel good...seems as though people hate my website lol.or are just undecided.

2. the website structure is not clear to the user. I don´t understand your website. I won´t invest alot time into a common website to udnerstand it. That means you must A) make the complete website much much more simple and reduced it more (to the 3D games) or B) you make a website layout like every site. Something I already know how to use. Or C) add porn into the first pictures I see. Then I invest more time in digging your site. Of course only if it´s good erotic.

hahahaha...nice. ok. i tried to make the layout as simple as possible i kept everything consistant there were things that i put on every page so that no matter where you are on the site you can access this feature i.e. live chat.
EDIT: and the site is centered around 3d games. its extremely simple to understand. my 8 year old sister understood it. and plus making a website that you've seen before just makes my site another site in a crowd of sites. making it different and making it stand out is what was the goal. its better to wear a blue shirt in a crowd of white t-shirts.
