Hi again,

I really need help on this topic...

Detailled scene-setup:
First sunlight casts shadows (stencil) on all models in the scene correctly.
then you can switch sunlight off and switch a pointlight on. All models are lightened correctly in the whole scene now, but only a few in short distance to the pointlight are casting shadows.
The problem: I need shadows in the whole scene, even of models that are far away from the light...

any ideas?

thanks
rob

Then you have to raise the lightrange...

Always learn from history, to be sure you make the same mistakes again...

well,
the lightrange of the pointlight is about 100000... and all models are lightened fine according to that value (if I raise or lower lightrange more or less models are affected)... however shadows only show up in close distance (<~1500) to the light.

Are there some restrictions that a model must not exceed a certain max-distance to a light to cast shadows???

Hi,

I'm still stuck on this problem.
Here is a Test-Level I setup to show you the effect:
Test Level (with the template-free-camera to fly around)

So I can lighten models in unlimited range but create shadows only in ~2000 quants distance of a light?????

Because of scaling issues I don't want to shrink my whole scene.
This can't be true!

*** Please help! ***

My version is 7.04 pro...
I added a published version to the archive.

and here is a screenshot of the problem

If this is a bug/limitation of 3DGS - is there an alternative way to produce shadows?
I'm actually looking for some technique to visualize a visual sensor and I need some kind of 'vision-shadow' (in german: "Sichtschatten").

thanks in advance for any suggestions!

easy enough...

Because of the angle of the light and then gun meeting floor, the shadow is very far to the right. I believe shadows are only cast a certain distance. Check the manual for something like "shadow_range".

Also, make sure that the far models aren't being lit by another light. I'm using A6, so I can't test this...

well, you can test it with the published exe in my archive
there is defenitly NO shadow at a certain range...

the manual says lightrange is limited to 2000quants... OKAY
BUT: this seems to apply to shadows only, not the lightning.

I think you scale the models too large, 192 quants for a gun! Too big I think. Scale down the model and shorten the distance, everything will be fine.
