Hello!

I'm not sure if this has been suggested before, but it would be great to be able to restrict vertices to the x/y/z plane while pulling them in the 3d view. Here are my thoughts:

How about if you hold down the x,y,or z key while dragging this point, it'll be constrained to that plane? My intention is to be able to drag that point up and down along the z-axis without much fuss.

Thanks!
- Bret

This is already implemented. if you select an object in the 3D view, there will be three arrows pointing into each axis. Between these arrows are "squares" that if you click on them, will constrain the object's movement to the axis the "square" is aligned to.

You can also click on the arrows themselves to constrain the movement to the linear axis.

Code:
void main()
{
    cout << "I am MrCode,";
    cout << "hear me roar!";
    system("PAUSE");
}

MrCode,

That's true, but that's only if you want to move the entire block, right? I only want to move one vertex along the z-axis, not the entire object. I'm using the "vertex move" tool.

Thanks!

Thanks flits, but I'm still having trouble. I don't see the arrows that you're talking about when working in vertex mode in the 3d window.

I've prepared another image to try to explain the issue again:

To reiterate, I'd love the ability to drag this vertex along the z-axis in the 3d window. Holding down the z key while dragging this vertex seems like a very intuitive way to solve the problem.

Thanks!
- Bret

Ah! You're talking about the "Axis Restriction" button in the toolbar! Now I understand. However, that button doesn't seem to affect the movement of the vertex. I'll paste another example of what I mean:

Any ideas? My goal is to be able to pull the vertex along the z-axis in the 3d view.

Thanks,
- Bret

Hi flits,

Thanks for your advice. One problem is that the vertex that I'm trying to move isn't easy to select in either the XZ or YZ view. Observe:

See what I mean? You can only grab the correct vertex in the 3d view.

Thanks,
- Bret
