Hey guys,

Well I have finally settled on 3ds max to use with 3dGameStudio, and I was wondering are there any feature functions that 3ds Max has that 3DGame Studio does not support? Your help is very much appreciated, I am afraid to make all these cool things in 3ds Max and get familiar with their new features only to find 3dGameStudio cannot support that feature!

I really love all that I see with 3DGameStudio, but I need to make sure that I can use most of 3ds Max's functionality. We are developing an educational 3D adventure game where the end user will have it on a CD and use it on their PC.

Thank you for any and all help or points in the correct direction!

Peace

Depends on complexity of the bones of your model, when you use bones weights they only work with the Gamestudio Pro, but one bone per vertex works with all editions.

Thank you so very much Tobias. I am just learning 3ds Max now and through God's grace have been blessed with a year to use it. I'll opt for the Pro when we get GameStudio next month(Gw). I really appreciate your informative response

LOL , almost NONE of 3d max functions are supported by GameStudio , gamestudio is not a modeling/rendering program , it's a real time engine. This doesnt mean gamestudio is bad because of it , pretty much no engines support anything from max , or any program , you have to develop the things with the engine in mind. With that said , Gamestudio supports models with 1 bmp or tga texture applied to them , and requires the model to be it's texture Uv-unwrapped , you cannot use max materials or procedurals , or any type of efects to the max material. For animation , till recently it's just been where you animate the model in max and you export the model with the animations you've made , but now gamestudio supports bones, not sure how or if you can export them from max. For game environments , if your going to be using gamestudios bsp format they all have to be made of individual blocks , and you need a plugin to export , it's better to just use WED imo , unless u plan on making very complex levels. So thats basicly it , as for modeling , you can make the model any way you want , box modeling , nurms , booleans , whatever , it doesnt really matter , should all export fine as long as you have 1 texture to the model with an unwrapped basic material , hope this clears things up a bit for you.

Do you think that there is no real benefit to use 3ds Max if I am using gamestudio, that WED is just as good? Why do people opt to use 3ds Max then..I am confused...my levels are not that complex.

Peace

Well there's benefit if ur used to the program , but for bsp levels , then WED is good enough. 3D Max is usually used for making models , characters , and level objects too complex to build off of bsp , 3d max is much more powerfull than Med , so using a modeling program like max is a much better choice for game models. So this all depends on how u are planning to do levels , nowadays , gamestudio has polygon collision, so you can build your levels out of models , in this case , max would be the way to go , you an also use baked in lighting which should make ur levels look really good when imported to gamestudio . So there's definately a lot of options here , as to how you plan on doing things , but using max is definately an advantage , specially for models , there is however that plugin i talked earlier about , with that plugin you can also export your bsp levels from max to gamestudio , so , definately a lot of stuff you should look into. Wow what great information!!! Why_Do_I_Die you ROCK Thank you ever ever so much... I have tried to contact Autodesk resellers, different 3ds Max designers...and have not been able to get the detailed information I needed. This forum is really a God send and I feel blessed to be part of it. Thank you my Angel.

You knew exactly what I was looking for a plug-in and this one can even import full textures and animations. 3DGS should really know about this product and should highlight it don't you think? This way folks are more apt to use 3DGS..?

To answer your question we create 3D Christian adventure games. We do not charge for our software, it is our ministry. May you be continually blessed.

Peace.
