hi...with the new A7 i see its possible to make very good water-looking terrains...BUT....how do you make it so that your characters can actually ENTER the water and swim in it...instead of just WALKING on it....for the terrain,,
PASSABLE is set to ON.....and POLYGON is set to ON....and its a NON_CHUNKED TERRAIN...its a flat terrain loaded on ...over a hole created in a regular terrain...to look like a river or lake....

Hiya.

I don't own A7, so this is just a guess. Is your terrain complete, and then a water 'plane' placed somewhere in a depression in order to give you a lake surface? It sounds like you just put a water texture on a part of your terrain. That isn't gonna work. You need to put the water 'block' so that the top of the block is above your terrain. There's a switch for it somewhere. It needs to be "passable", and I'm not sure if you need/should have Polygon set to on...that sounds like it's for collision and shadows.

You "just" have to Script that. It is possible and if your are working with the Templates, there is something for swimming, but I don´t know how to use it since I never worked with those Templates.

thank you PAUL for trying to help..BUT its seems that you might not have READ clearly what I stated.....

you say....

anyone else able to get water to work LIKE water ???

i have used the template water action, my model swims in it and everything. it looks a little cheesey without the underwater fog, or the caustics for light, but once you add those things via scripting, you have a cool effect. i have never really successfully used the terrain water shader, but i know it looks very cool. to combine the two should be great! i have A6 commercial, and I have a underwater level that works pretty well for me. good luck.

well as far as making it so you dont walk on it, just set it as passable. as far as swimming, that has to be coded in.

well so far I had already done all the things mentoined..
the water terrain IS set to PASSABLE ....BUT
I have to jump up and land on it in order to even get in it
up to my knees and no further...
so its still not swimmable...even tho its PASSABLE...
Does ANYONE actually have a level that uses a WATER TERRIAN
that can be swam in ???
if so plz let me know
because so far no one that has answered me has actually SEEN it work..

There probably are some having done something like that, but you won´t be able to do it with the templates.
As lostclimate and I already wrote, you need to code the behavior on your own.

thank you slim for answering so quickly..
now..IF I understand correctly...
Unless you are able to program using LITE-C
you will NOT be able to have USABLE water
and water effects working together..?
up until now it was pretty easy to get water to work..as water does
you'd walk in it and sink and then swim...so now...
WHy do the templates we were using up until now....
no longer work for having water in a level ???
