Hi everyone,

I am hoping that someone can tell me if there are any video codecs/formats that are royalty-free for commercial use that I can use via media_play in GameStudio.

Obviously, the most popular formats, such as DivX and Xvid, won't work because of licensing issues. But what about other formats, such as WMV and MPG? Are there restrictions to their use?

I suppose I am simply looking for someone to teach me what formats are safe to use in a commercial game (while still distributing the codec with the game, if necessary), without having to pay royalties.

are freeware. i ve been using them for several years now for video editing.

they are based on jpeg image sequences, and have a very good (even lossless if you like) picture quality.
but they calculate every picture seperately, so there are some compression limits, when it comes to achieve the smallest possible filesize.
