Hallo miteinander,

Show the script with the laggy behaviour. You said the template scripts do their job. Only with your scripts it presents some problems? Don't think many people can help because A4 is such a long time ago. Maybe it's time to update or use free Lite-C?

Thanks for your reply!

I found out it is a problem with Windows XP compatibility. I used the compatibility mode of Windows XP (Windows 98 mode) as a workaround. I might upgrade to a newer Engine soon or keep using it this way.

If you have it working no problem, but you can try free lite-c on the side

I tried Lite C but did not really find it useful for me. It's very interesting as a demo but there are too many restrictions for me (i.e., no Level Ed and although the old maps work I cannot incorporate scripts into it). What I need is a more complete and Windows XP-compatible version. I don't need all the new features.

My dream would be purchasing A5 Extra for a low amount of money but I did not find any offers, yet (I know it's too old...). Do you happen to know if A5 is Windows XP compatible?

While I do own A5 Commercial. I have not installed or used it anymore since i've upgraded to A6 and A7 GameStudio. So I don't know for sure if it will work with XP, it will work with Windows 98SE. A5 can still be very good if you like to create a game for operating system older than Windows XP and Vista. A5 contain a software renderer which is pretty nice.

You could post a request on the forum that you like to purchase A5 from someone who doesn't use it anymore. The problem is that most ppl who have upgraded their version, can't sell the previous to anyone else. So, perhaps on Ebay etc..

Thank you. I've posted a request.
I did not find ONE copy of Gamestudio (no matter which version) on Ebay at the moment, which is kind of weird. A year ago or so there were always several copies at once.

Another question: If I want to use Lite-C, could I get my A4 WED to work with it? Lite-C doesn't seem to support the definition "action" anymore, which means I cannot add them in my old WED. Otherwise that would be my first choice now because I already managed to load my level in Lite-C.

Don't really need WED it's just for speedup your workflow and easier than having to do all this by code. You can model your world/objects in a 3d modeler and use MED only for converting. In the end everything can be loaded, oriented etc with script code. There is also a member (TripleX) on this forum working on his own level editor called GameEdit. Look here. The author has switched to C++ because of problems with Lite-C and big projects something that made me think about Lite-C in general.

Well, I guess my abilities (and my interests) are a little too much on the beginner's side. I actually like the workflow of A4. But thank you, I'll look into it.

Just fiddling around with A4 is basically as good as it gets for me. And before I don't finish one small complete game I do not want to spend too much money on it (I know how I am with these things, last time I touched Gamestudio was about a year ago or so). It will always be a side-hobby anyways.
