I'm back with 3DGS now after a long break for school and RL...

The problem I have is... I have a registered version of A6 Extra. But from what I see 3DGS has had big changes... Should I stay with the A6 Extra edition or move on over to A7?

What are the benefits of moving to A7?

And, how does the scripting system differ now?

Orginally, I programmed... That was all I did. But now I taught myself how to produce my own models and art, so I would like to start a project made entirely by myself... I just need to know the ups and downs of A6/A7 and which would be better to go with. (Like possible bugs in A7, etc...)

You can use A7 with wdl or c_script, no probs.
Renders much faster, cleaner and now, choice of model or geometry builds (bsp now pro feature), greater fustrum culling than previously and good FPS.
You might enjoy Lite-C, native to A7 I think.

Hi, I am in almost the exact same situation as you are. I stop using A6 Extra a few years ago and decided to get A7 a couple of days ago.

From what I've seen so far, A7 definitely seems superior although it is quite hard getting into things again which is probably due to a combination of A7 and the fact that I've been away so long.

Ditto here too. I'm just getting back to 3DGS with A6 Commerical and will probably buy A7 this weekend. After having been gone for about three years fooling around with Torque and spending quite of bit of money there, I decided to do a re-look at this suite. I hope it lives up to the things I've been reading about for the past few weeks.

I've been reading throught he forum and I think that for right now, A6 would be the best to stick with.

A7 is so new that they haven't worked out the kinks... There seems to be quite a few WED bugs that would bother me and probably more that haven't been discovered, etc...

Another question though...

If later I chose to upgrade to A7, would I need to change anything in my code (C-Script) to be compatible? (which would be a headache...)

Lite-C is more like C: less annoying quirks than C-Script, but stricter syntax.

It's not too bad; I converted an entire medium-sized project in 3 days.

P.S.: WED bugs won't be a problem; only the engine got a major overhaul. And remember, you don't have to uninstall A6 to use A7!
