it would be cool if 3dgs could render in dx 10 then we could do some real "crysis" stuff. although the water in crysis is dx8 along with alot of other effects. dx10 compatibility with 3dgs would be amazing. just imagine the possibilities. the ability to render models and images in tru HD quality. realtime effects. HDR lighting that looks really nice. AAA graphics in 3dgs. it would make competition in the aum contests very stiff. and im pretty sure the price of 3dgs would go up.

I don´t think that the price of 3dgs would go up but it would be really nice to see that 3dgs supports DX10.
At the moment not many people have Vista so they can not play DX10 games, so the Engine must support DX9 and seperatly DX10.

Cheers

Toni

First make a game that pushes DX9 to its limit, and if you're really capable of doing so, then you have a good reason to ask for DX10.

my responses
1. dx10 isnt for xp. thats true. but still consider the amount of people who are able to use dx10. like myself. i have windows vista and am able to use dx10.

2. new possiblities. play crysis. first render it in dx9. then render it in dx10(using the "-dx9" in the target box) youll see the possibilities. advanced lighting affects. realistic ambience. more dynamic, softer, soft shadows. greater processing capacity. better shadows from tree leaves. thought the sphere engine way is innovative in the 3dgs realm its doesnt look like leaves are being shadowed...looks more like blocks from a pacman game. though still very impressive. i wouldnt be able to do it so kudos to the sphere engine.

3. firoball. im not sure how to take your post. as an insult or as you just saying "someone needs to make a game that pushes dx9 to the limit" and not just me. so ill not respond to that.

Well, he just told you, that before you ask for a new technology, push the existing to its limits.

As said before, just having DX10 wont make your games look better by default,
it always depends on the person who's working with it, and great looking game
were made at all times, it doesnt depends on the technique, it depends on the creator.
(not meant personal but in general. )

Success is walking from failure to failure with no loss of enthusiasm.

would dx10 support give you?

Important was the last word.
And I am quite sure that there is no effect which couldn´t be done with directx 9...

I said that it makes no sense to request DX10 support if you can't put up a game which pushes DX9 to the limits.
While I don't know whether you're capable of doing so or not, I can say that I've seen many Acknex games.
Great ones, acceptable ones and a lot of poor ones - but none of those, not a single one, put DX9 to its limits.

Well I am not using direct x anymore, since I realized that you need a game engine to make game , therefore I am not so familiar with direct x 10
However , maybe , I misunderstood , but your post sounds to me such as

Why do you want to study high math if you dont have even math foundations ?

If so, I dont angree
All the new direct x edition not only introduce new features but they also greatly simplified the use of the old ones
Consequently there was no reason not to switch immediatly ,for example, from direct x 7 to 8 or from 8 to 9
In case of direct x 10 the only issue is actually Vista

Why should I demand a luxus edition of a Porsche if I don't even have the money to buy a new car?

The DX7/8 situation is different than DX9/10.

When Conitec switched, they swiched from an old DX version which was not standard anymore. DX9 still is standard and will remain standard for quite some time.

There are several people who don't even want a switch to DX10 as this equals a switch to Vista. In my case, this would force me to switch to another game engine.
