Hi
Again im gathering some information about some stuff.
How do you people usually do tree models?
Do you make a tree trunk and then put some intersected leaves sprites, then save it as a map entity?
or Do you make it all in MED and save it as a model?

any idea or tip?

thanks

Most of the tree models I have had a look at are done in MDL format.

Have a look at the trees that are used in the default car project
in the GS\projects folder..

Windows XP SP3
Intel Dual Core CPU: E5200 @ 2.5GHz
4.00GB DDR3 Ram
ASUS P5G41T-M LX
PCIE x16 GeForce GTS 450 1Gb

alright

but is mdl rendered faster then a map entity ?

edited: couldnt find any tree model in the projects folder or A6 templates...

Anyone has any other idea of how to do a low poly and good looking tree model?

map entity? model? which render faster?

imo, your best bet is using a model, as it offers mode control over texture mapping, and for a low poly tree textures are the key to a good looking tree.

Head over to user_contributation forum.
In there you will find a contribution by loopix "MystyMoods"
There are a few trees in it you can have a look at.

Good luck..

P.S I believe his trees are famous

Make trunks with mdl then make a plane with the box primitive by welding 2 sides together then apply a 32 bit tga image for its skin then merge the two together and you have a tree.

Hmm, the problem with this in MED is, if I try to apply the TGA/PCX/BMP/etc to the plane...the trunks get the same skin >.<

its because of a single uv/model limitation
to solve this, import trunk and leaves separately (as two separate objects)

There is other way to make trees: linking.
1.Make a tree model, no leaves.
2.Make a leaf sprite.
3.Make a script to link both.
Try it: Yucca

sorry guys for taking too long to awnser.
-to Everyone:
The way im doing right is similar to VADIM647īs way, but I used a map entity
for the trunk.
So its pretty much a trunk (map entity WMB) and and 4 TGA leave sprite on top of each ( im doing 4 because if I intersect this TGA sprites they show strangely).

So IF I mix both ideas?
Make a trunk in MDL , and make leaves in SPRITES and mix them? does it renders faster?
OR
Which one is better/faster/whatever?
WMB trunk + SPRITES leave X MDL trunk + MDL leave

thanks for so much replies

ps. I will check the contribution sections later this weekend. thanks for the tip.
