It's that time of year again - software upgrade!!! and i was wondering if you had a recommendation of what software i should get. I current use carrarra 5. I am willing to spend at most around 700$ but anything lower would be better. If you could help please do as any advise is taken with thanks.
Thanks in advance, Doof

Hiya.

Hit the net, find the companies, try the demos. Probably the only way to really find one you like. Off the top of my head, try looking into:

Hexagon ( http://www.daz3d.com )

XSI Foundation ( http://www.softimage.com )

Lightwave ( http://www.newtek.com )

Silo ( http://www.nevercenter.com/about/ )

Zbrush ( http://www.pixologic.com )

trueSpace ( http://www.caligari.com )

Milkshape ( http://chumbalum.swissquake.ch/ )

Have fun! smile

Thanks for all those links, I was leaning toward truespace in the first place, but I wasn't sure how good it is for gstudio - like am i able to import models from truespace into med fully animated and skinned. Another question about it is how good the UV mapper and skin editer is. If you could help with this that would be great,
Thanks, Doof

Just wondering, is gamespace any good? I mean is it anything in comparison to truespace?

Hi

I have TS7.5 and gamespace and the UV mapping is hard frown

Modo the UV mapping is ace and you can import/export into MED/WED using FBX smile

You can't animated in modo yet but you will one day, I used fragMOTION for that smile fragmosoft

Now I have modo I will never buy another modeling software - not even 3d max.

What you should do is download the 30 day trial smile and see what you think.

Try Maya, it's my favourite, and nowadays it's being used a lot at professional gamestudios too!

Max or Maya for modeling. XSI you would probably hate but its a decent package but very foriegn to modlers who have used Maya and Max. Zbrush or Mudbox for scultpting and doing normal mapping. Two of any of these and you can dominate the galaxy... uh.. well at least make some decent models. GS out.

Hi, thanks for all the responses. I have tried blender but i could never get the hang of it. @MaxF is truespace worth the 300$ for the modeling, animating, and skinning? Ill also take a look at Modo @Helghast I would like to try maya but that is one of the most expensive ones. Thanks again for answering ;D.
