I've run into an odd problem with some models I just created in my level, where it seems that the closer I get to each of the models, the lower Level of Detail versions seem to be getting loaded instead of the higher--the LOD is working in reverse of how it is supposed to behave. I triple-checked the models, and they are in the correct order, with model_0.mdl being the highest-resolution textures, etc, and model_3.mdl having the lowest resolution. The models are fairly wide (I am using them as "billboards" around my main building), but other than that there's nothing particularly unusual about them...

Can anyone explain why this might be happening? has anyone seen this happen before?

Thanks in advance.

Maybe, playing around with the d3d lod-factor helps:

Or, look in your 'view.clip_far'.

Hi Pappenheimer, thank you for your reply. Something else just occurred to me--could the model's origin play a factor in this? My models are rather large, and I think the origin has been placed somewhere other than the bottom center. In fact, I'm going to go check that right now! I'll post back with what I find out...

Yep, it turned out to be an origin problem. However, even figuring that out, I can see that I won't be able to use LOD for these particular models since they are so large--the LOD drops inappropriately when one is close to the model but not close to its origin. Oh well...
