I am making a shooter, this is the demo video. The level is very short and there isn't much detail, the idea is to basically shoot enemies while being distracted by a bunch of crazy crap in the background, there isn't much crazy crap currently however. I have been working on hammering out the physics system. There are 2 basic enemies here: a space mine and a beam thing. All of the enemies have different options as far as their behavior is concerned; like the vertical and horizontal beam enemy are the same enemy, but one has a flag checked, etc. Collecting crystals will upgrade the basic weapon, the homing missiles are just something that I put in for fun, they won't be available to the player from the start.

looks smooth. the engine effect looks cheap, but i like the rest. nice beam on the beam thingies, nice exlosions, fast gameplay/smooth movement. keep it up!

I actually like the engine effect, slightly different than the average engien blast. As you mentioned the levels are a little empty at the moment but a good start.

cartoon_baboon: yea the engines are linked to the thrust as well. there has been a lot of changes to the level over night.

cro_games: that is what i am aiming for. like what would it look like if space shooters of this type were still popular today.

qyadraxas: i stole it...

toast: yes! limiting the movement to the borders of the screen at a 45 degree angle like this has undesired results at the moment.

maglat: as soon as i purchase molebox and have a complete level.

EDIT: Also, I will be updating the video. In general I have learned a lot about handling large levels with many entities. Did I mention: nexus = 10. . .

hehehheee, i entered some similar movement code to the contest, but has no 45 degree angle limit, but does update its rotation smoothly (bones ftw :P).
Have a look, who knows, it might help, but seeing the state this is in currently... great job man! i want to make such A game once too... time frown
