i see what you mean -- typically the guard's "just doing my job" while a rebel is, well, rebelling against something. which is more interesting? from that perspective, definitely the rebel. what if the guard has a personal history with this rebel -- what if he's not just a guard, he's an authoritative character with a grudge against this rebel who has taken it upon himself to oversee the safe-keeping of this rebel until he's properly dealt with?
then again, maybe they're both equally boring. each is just doing the job assigned to them, and the rebel's job was arrest-worthy. i guess even then the rebel's more interesting, because his life at that point would revolve around his imprisonment and hopeful escape.
