Hi, this should be very easy. I need a regular six-sided cube with a different color on each face. I have done a cube using red, green, blue, orange, purple and yellow but I got the UV mapping a little bit wrong and the colors are shifted over on some of the faces. I thought this would be easy to do in MED, since you can do a six-sided mapping automatically and then use the fill tool in the skin editor. But when I use the fill tool, I can only fill with pure green, no matter what color I select! Is it just me, or what?

So I did one in Carrara 3D Basics, which did not turn out quite right. Maybe someone with 3DStudio will take pity on me and spend a few minutes doing this cube correctly. Also any recommendations on what people use for UV mapping / unwrapping, etc.

here you go:
http://home.arcor.de/xarthor/files/Simple Box.rar

the rar contains a .fbx, .u3d and a .mdl file
File format of the mdl file is mdl7 which should be supported by A6.

Beautiful! That's exactly what I was looking for. You are the man, Xarthor! (Again.) Hey, what did you use to do this?

I used MED to create a simple box, then I exported it to FBX.
For the UV map I used Ultimate Unwrap 3D: www.unwrap3d.com
Then I colored the UV map in Paint Shop Pro 8 (but even paint would have done that job)
And MED again to save from fbx to mdl wink

Glad I could be of help with my basic artist skills laugh

This is strange. I can see the cube fine in MED, but I can't see it in my level. It appears to load fine and there is an entity in the level with that filename and it's not invisible and it's scaled correctly and all that, but I can't see it. Just to make sure I created a very simple level in WED and loaded it there. Again I can see the level geometry but not the block. And I can see it in WED! Just not in the running level. Weird, huh?

check if the skins in MED are all 24 bit. Thats a bug in the fbx importer
