As above, I am trying to do a terrain that is equivelant to
16 Hectares or around 160.000.00 sq meters I think it works out to.
Unfortuantly I am not all that good at conversions so I would be greatful for any kind of assistance.
In other words, what would be the equivelant vertices/faces of a terrrain of this size.

My Human model's eye level is around 69 quants which I believe is standard.

Many thanks in advance.

there is no conversion "Quants -> (Insert real life measurement here)"

Its all about how you make the worl, how big you scale models and in relation how big the world is. If you make your player model very very small, one quant could be an entire hectar. Or if you make you player model very very big, one quant can be just an inch.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah I know all about what you described above, all I was
wanting to know was how many faces a terrain would have to have to be equal
to 160 square meters. "Using the standard 1 quant = 2.54 cm".

Hi Nidhogg smile

Try the formula
1 quant = 2.54 cm
changed to
1 quant = 0.0254 meters
x quant = 160 meters

160 meters / 0.0254 = x quant

If you have 1 quant=2.54 cm then one quant would = 0.0254 m.
Divide 160 m by 0.0254 m= 6299.212 quants. Is that what your trying to find?

its not 160 m that he is looking for. he is looking for 160 meter SQUARE. The area based. so here is how the conversion goes:

1 quant = 2.54 cm

2.54cm = 1 quant

0.0254 meters = 1 quant

1 meter = (1/0.0254) quant

1 meter-square = (1/0.0254)squared quant = (1/0.00064516) quants-square

160 meter-square = ( (1/0.00064516) x 160 ) quants-square

right I know that, all he would have to do is square 6300 to get 40,000,000 sq quants=160 sq meters

Quote:
1 meter = (1/0.0254) quant

1 meter-square = (1/0.0254)squared quant = (1/0.00064516) quants-square

160 meter-square = ( (1/0.00064516) x 160 ) quants-square

This is wrong, 1 meter does_not_equal 1/0.0254 quants
1 meter = 39.37 quants
160 meters= 6299 quants
160 meters squared = approx 40,000,000 sq quants

This is if 1 quant=2.54 cm, which I think is a good scale.

I (almost) agree Tri, but pull out your calculator and punch in
1 / 0.0254 and look at the answer. smile

Otherwise I agree, and thanks for mentioning that 2.54 is a good scale,
Ive been monitoring this thread waiting for exactly that comment.

Thanks everybody for your help. This is how I interpet your answers.

If I do a terrain of length 20,000,000 triangles and width 20,000,00 triangles that should give me an area of 160 square meters is that right?, using a 2.54cm scale and presuming MED and WED both use same grid scale.
