Ok, hi, I'm Airikita, and this looks quite impressive by the youtube videos, and screenshots I see.

I've programmed with Game Maker, and using GML, I've learned the basics, and wizzed through Visual Basic on first try. So, of course, I understand the concept of basic codes, and am interested to learn more. I've also created some 3D models (old ones that I've lost on my old computer), and made my own textures.

I've planned out complex AI on paper with simple GML, and tested fragments of them, however never put them to action due to disappointment of the appeal. I've been improving the concepts of my ideas, working to start up the ideal game. 3D just keeps comming up as the graphic and environment appeal, so that is why I'm here.

I have some questions, and I am wondering:
1. Is this tool a fun experience? What are the things that make it simple? (as the website says it's an easy tool)
2. I plan to make a hybrid-type game (maybe, work-in-progress.. a small portion of the game will need to be 2D), can this tool create 2D gameplay?
3. I would like to get a glimpse at some scripts, to read up on.. is there any topics or pages someone can show me that have an elaborate script? (it is how I learn, I'd like to get a taste of the hard stuff before starting)
4. If you have anything else you can offer, like suggestions, that would be awesome!

I'm still jotting notes, and to make sure I'm making the right type of gameplay, I need to look into the programming aspects.

welcome 2 the community.

here are ur answers:

1. Yes. GameStudio is fun. U can learn at very fast pace. Tutorials and workshops are clear and easy. Templates are there to help u build fast prototypes.

2. Yes. If u can make 3D, then 2D is also possible.

3. For the scripts.. go for the workshop and tutorials. it starts with the basic Helloworld to more complex ones.

4. Get into the stuff.. and u never gonna leave from here !

Cheers !

Once again, welcome aboard.

If you want to see some wicked scripting, look in your gamestudio folder
in "projects" fur complete code, or samples for bits and pieces.
Also look in the "contibutions" forum too.

Also, check out the Wiki and magazine links at the bottom of the page.
Especially the magazine, the workshops are VERY useful.

Hi! I'm also a beginner at this, and this post was helpful. But I have a question for you, delinkx. When you say "workshops" I know you mean the AUM Online Magazine hosted on the 3DGS website, but where are these tutorials?

Thanks in advance.
