I want to build a truck with a telescoping ladder on it and simulate the physics of working the ladder. When really doing this, the metal ladder sections flex some and rebound based on how far they are extended out and the speed of the movement, and how suddenly it is stopped.

It is similar to the Crane demo (excellent BTW) but instead of a cable (which I think the author said was made from particles) I need to see ladder geometry and the orientation would be predominantly horizontal, hence a definite "sag" when it is lifted out of the ladder bed.

Is the A6 physics engine able to do this?

Regards, Ron

40 views, yet no reply. I take it this is very complicated then?

implementing a telescoping ladder wouldn't be a big problem with slider constraints. but it would take some experiments to find out how realistic the flexing would be...

What kind of approach would you try? The ladder is in 3 fly sections. My first idea is to break each fly section into 3-4 mini-sections to facilitate the sag. Trouble is I've only got commercial, so 1 physics object. Sure do wish their was a way to "demo" the pro-version, but well, I've already requested that under another topic.

BTW, I'm also using Newton - they have made one nice product. But, with the quality of Conitec, I'm trying to look at this from all angles.

Thanks for the input,
Ron

Check gamasutra.com - they have a deformable object article somewhere that tells how to do such a thing. 3DGS does support vertex level deformations...

Thank you, I will try to find that at Gamasutra.
