I guess info on this has not migrated into the docs yet, but I was wondering -- when this is called, is memory allocated for the cubemap? Does it convert the bitmap in-place? Who's on first?

All information about new features is in the installation instructions. - No, it does not allocate new memory, it merely converts the texture to a format required for the DirectX environment mapping modes.
