Hello,

I have a large level. When I place the camera position far above so I would be able to see the entire level in its view, acknex.exe crashed when I try to run the level. If I move the camera down very close to my level, acknex.exe does not crash, but when I start to pan around and more objects come into view, then it crashes. I also cannot locate any kind of a log file for this.

Anyone know off-hand what might be causing this? My max_entities and nexus are set pretty high (6000 and 500 respectively) and that has worked in previous versions of GS (I just upgraded to 7.77).

I'd upload the level but it's just too darn big.

Thanks...

Do you notice an FPS loss before the level crashes? Maybe it's really just too big.

Thanks for the reply.

I don't notice any slowdown at all. The engine just simply crashes after I turn the camera a little bit. As I mentioned the level loaded fine in previous versions of 3DGS/WED.

I just tried a few more things and I'm beginning to think that it has something to do with one certain area of my level--when I pan the camera around things seems okay until I turn toward the northeast part of my map, and then it crashes. Every other direction seems okay. Anyone know what could cause the engine to crash like this?

Well, I'm not using any shaders, so that would leave models. But previous versions of 3DGS worked fine with the number of models I'm using, so was there some new kind of limit or bug that's been added? Is it possible that instead of the models that maybe some bad level blocks could cause the crashes?
Is there any kind of log file available for acknex.exe crashes?

Yes, but it doesn't do more than writing error messages you recieve into a text file. As you don't achieve one, it wouldn't make sense.
Some very high-poly level blocks (16-sided cylinders or something) can cause the crash if they are in some crude shape.

I figured it out. Turns out I have a model with an "open face"; I narrowed it down by process of elimination, and this same model that caused no problems in previous versions of 3DGS now causes acknex.exe to crash. The level otherwise runs fine. So that's what I'll be working on tonight!
