Export from WED to Blender? #282822

Does anyone know of a method to export a level from WED to Blender? Or from WED to MED to Blender?

I have a level, with models, WMP's, etc, that I want to export to Blender. I don't care about scripts or animations, just meshes & skins.
I just now tried selecting some models in WED, exporting to ASE, imported into MED (successfully, with skins) and then exported from MED to 3ds file. I then imported that into Blender, but noticed my textures were missing...

If anyone has a known process for this, you'd be really helping me out.

Thanks!

3ds is no good format. i don't have access to wed and med right know and can't remember all formats they support but i think it's possible to export to fbx. so i would try fbx -> collada -> blender. there is a free fbx to collada converter by autodesk.

Okay, I found the answer.

Export from MED as FBX 12.x

Then use the older version of the FBX converter from AutoDesk's archives and convert to .obj format, then import into Blender (as an .obj). When I did it this way my meshes and textures imported with no problems. When I used AutoDesk's current version of the FBX converter, my model would import into Blender without any textures (I tried all variations of import/export from MED to Blender too, and nothing else worked).

So thanks!

By the way, is there some kind of memory limit on MED/WED in regard to the size of the model(s) being exported? I noticed that I can indeed export multiple models, but then there seems to be a cutoff where I have too many and MED craps out...

Yeah, I wish there was a way to boost its limits a bit. I'm not looking forward to having to export small groups of models piecemeal in order to reconstruct my level in Blender for rendering, but I guess I should just be glad it even works at all.

why not just use blender entirely. You can use ventilators level exporter from the 3rd party tools forum.
