I am making this model for a project and I was wondering what peoples thoughts are on it. It is the main character for a sci-fi space game. He is still a WIP and stands now at about 11.3k faces. I still have to remove some polygons from some places and add more to others, so in the end i am hoping to have the poly count less than it is now. Any and all C&C is welcome.

Thanks
DG

Ps. Yes i know he is missing his hands...those are to be added later =p

edit: this is the right section of the forum to post it in right? because to me this is a project...lol

i hope by "some" you mean around 9k?

but besides that it looks nice, would love to see it with skin

yes, i am looking to try to shave off a few thousand, mostly from the front of the helmet (there is a part that has a large amount of unneeded polygons, and from places were they wont be seen (ie. the cylinders were the knees are).

Thanks for that though, will make a even great effort to take off even more polygons.

DG

edit forgot to mention that it is for a 3rd person game, so it will need a bit more detail

If you're making good use of the polygons, several thousand isn't a big deal for a main character, especially if the camera is quite close to the character. Although in this case, as he looks pretty rounded, you probably could cut down, but it's good that you've got that planned anyway.

Do you have some concept art you're basing this on?

wayyyyy too many polygons, you could cut down the polycount by one or even two thirds. approximately. i know that you want to add tons and tons of details (which modeller doesn't? :P) but you shouldn't try to get a highly detailed model using polygons. go for shaders instead.

Yeah, but... Who is Lu?

@Julz: Here is the concept that I drew for it.

And the 5 min photoshopped colored version:

I guess i should learn how to use shaders instead of detailed high poly models...i'll look up some tutorials on that, and see what I can do.

Ok, I think now, the target poly count would be somewhere between 7k and 9k. Would this still be too much?

@ Blade: Me neither! btw its DG not DJ =P

IMO a poly count of 7k is too much for a model like this.
It has quite simply and straight edges.
A model with a detailed face and cloth and single fingers and hair could have a budget of 7k.
Just my two cents.
